Creating Checkout Questions

Creating Checkout Questions

The Checkout Questions module allows you to collect additional information from guests during checkout. These questions can help capture operational details, support fulfillment, personalize an order, or satisfy other business requirements.
Because these questions appear in the checkout flow, every field should have a clear purpose and should be easy for customers to understand and complete.

When to use checkout questions

  1. Collect information required to process or fulfill a reservation.
  2. Capture customer preferences that directly affect the booking.
  3. Gather details needed by support, operations, or downstream systems.
  4. Provide clear instructions for information that cannot be inferred from the booking.
Use restraint: Unnecessary questions increase checkout effort and can contribute to abandonment. Ask only for information that has a defined business use.

Key concepts

When creating a checkout question in Activate, you will see the following fields:

- Question Name
For internal use to identify them easily. i.e.: AGE

- Question Text
Displayed to the guest during checkout. i.e.: Please provide the age of all the participants.

- Answer type
The answer type determines how guests provide information and how the response is validated. Choose the simplest type that reliably captures the required value.
  1. Text: Use when customers may need to provide context or detailed instructions.
  2. Number: Use when the response must follow a specific format or represent a measurable value.
  3. Dropdown: Use when exactly one predefined option should be selected.
  4. Date
  5. Time

- Question order

At the product level, you can order questions according to the customer’s decision flow. Place essential questions first, group related questions together, and leave optional or explanatory questions toward the end.
